1/24/11 Project 5
1. Project Description: It used to be in this room, but I remember there was a huge cardboard piece with a black-and-white child’s face on it.  I have no idea what the artist was basing his/her piece off of while doing that, but I am going to use that as my inspiration and create multiple separate pieces of work with different children from third world countries.  The background will be very minimal and the focus will solely be on the child.  The children that I choose will all be from different countries and I will be doing a small research paper on those specific countries; what they suffer through, how they live, what atrocities they’re forced to overcome.

2. Objective: The more involved I become with the idea of helping lesser fortunate people, the more I am able to grasp the scope of selfishness that we live in.  I hope that when I display this at the art show, people will stop and read my paper and become more knowledgeable about things going on outside of their own lives.

3. Materials: Cloth canvas and paint

4. Timeline: I’m hoping that I will be able to finish this project, along with the paper, in roughly 4 weeks.

12/12/11 Project 4
1. Project Description: I am going to create a portrait of a favorite, made-up, cartoon character that I tend to doodle in my agenda book during my boring classes.  It is of a person (girl or boy, I am not quite sure which it can be categorized as) with an afro, who looks absolutely miserable and angry.  It speaks volumes of my own imagination and what I probably look like during those few classes.

2. Objective: My objective is so simply expound upon my own imagination.  So many times I am commented on the “coolness” of my doodles so with this project, and possible future ones, I want to see where my doodling can take me.  I’m simply pursuing my own curiosity.

3. Materials: Matte board and acrylics paints.

4. Timeline: I want to finish this within the next three weeks.

11/17/11 Project 3
1. Project Description: For this project, I want to try and shy away from doing anything that has to do with flowers.  I recently saw a piece online that had a bunch of silhouettes of people and animals and thought it looked really cool and I was inspired.  I want create an abstract background with black silhouettes of people/nature as the main subject of my piece.

2. Objective:  I remembered the sketchbook project that I did in the past, where I painted silhouettes of trees/landscapes.  I want to go back to that and do a silhouette piece on a bigger scale.

3. Materials: Canvas and acrylic paints.

4.  Timeline: I am going to try and finish this project in the next 2-3 weeks.  In the meantime, I will also be working on my Project 2 at home.

11/2/11 Project 2 REVISION
1. Project Description: When I started to work on my original idea for Project 2, I didn’t feel as excited as I thought I’d be to start it.  I think it was becasue I was sick of working with the same materials, so I’ve decided to change things up! I’m going to be working with a large piece of plywood, and use a woodburner to create a nature-esque landscape.

2. Objective: I want to explore different mediums because I’ve been so caught up with using paints for so long.  I’m excited to see how my woodburning piece turns out.

3. Materials: 1 large piece of plywood, a woodburner, possibly paint/markers.

4. Timeline: It’s going to take a considerably long amount of time to complete thing project solely because of the fact that my woodburner isn’t top-notch, so it takes a while for the woodburner to thoroughly burn the wood. Because of this, I’ve decided to take this home and work on it as a mostly at-home project.

10/21/11 Project 2
1. Project Description:  I’ve decided that the theme for my body of work is going to be centered around nature, specifically flowers.  For this next project, I’m going to be painting on a medium-sized canvas with acrylics.

2. Objective: My previous project wasn’t realistic at all, so I want to focus on creating more of an accurate depiction of how the flowers actually look like in pictures.  My objective is not to make it look like it is a picture, but to simply stray away from my tendency to make funky designs on them.

3. Materials: 1 canvas and acrylic paint.

4. Timeline: Painting the background will only take me one period, possibly less. For the next 3 weeks or so, I’ll be solely focusing on painting the flowers.  If time permits, and I show quick progress, I will be adding more to the painting than just flowers.

9/13/11 Project 1 REVISION
1. Project Description:  A few years back, when I was in Honors Art with Mr. Miller, our class did a cultural ID project.  For this first project, I will be taking my Cultural ID 6 card, and transforming that into a diptych.  The flowers will be the main focus, but I will be adding in much more detail and color.  The size of the finished product will be a small size because I want to try and get as much detail as possible.

2. Objective:  I think nowadays, people have a misconception about art, which is this: how “good” a piece is depends on how well it is painted/drawn/sculpted/etc.  So with this project, I want to be able to show that the value in a piece of art lies in the artwork as a whole — the content,  the fine details, the colors, the shading, etc.   Everything works together to create the overall aesthetic of a piece.

3. Materials:  3 canvases and acrylic paint.

4. Time line:  I’m hoping that within the first week, I’ll get my sketching/background color done.  And then with the next two weeks, I’ll be focusing on the flowers and the little details.  The project may go on to take longer than 3 weeks to finish, depending on how fast I can get all the supplies and work.

9/9/11 Project 1
1.
